PAST TOP PICK AC-T Air Canada (B) Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $11.250

(A Top Pick Jan 15/14. Up 25.39%.) Still likes. Obviously energy is a huge tailwind for them. For every $0.01 that jet fuel drops, it falls right to the bottom line. Have also been doing other things. Introduced a baggage fee, which is great from a profitability standpoint. Figured on some things with their unions and from a pension standpoint. If oil prices start to slow down the economy, that will have an impact on them. Analysts continue to revise their target prices up based on their earnings estimates for next year and the year beyond.

HOLD ACQ-T AutoCanada Inc. Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $43.720

Before the current stock price drop, there were a number of issues. The value is now really starting to show up. For the majority of the year and even into last year, this was a stock that was always priced at a premium because they had such a high growth rate. The growth rate hasn’t stopped, but they have certainly come into line with their peers. The 2015 estimates are trading significantly cheaper than a lot of their peers. Have a very high exposure in Alberta which is part of the reason for the drop in the stock. However, new vehicle sales make up a big portion of their revenue, but from an EBITDA earnings standpoint, it doesn’t make up as much as you would think. It is only about 26%-27% of that. Basically down in price from what it was a year ago, and they have acquired over 15 dealerships, including their 2 largest in Québec. Starting to diversify outside of Alberta. There is lots of room for them to keep acquiring. If you have a longer-term time horizon you could get invested now.

PAST TOP PICK AD-T Alaris Royalty Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $33.490

(A Top Pick Dec 6/13. Up 2.73%.) This has gone through a bit of a ride. Had a big downturn in the 1st quarter. Had invested in Sears Holding, which Sears kind of abandoned. This was the first bad investment they had made. Had a bit of a selloff and then a bunch of Shorts jumped on. It drove the stock down from a $35 range down to $24 in the 1st quarter. Since then it has been recovering. Every quarter they just continued doing what they had been doing for the last 6-7 years since becoming public. There was another dividend increase this year and there will probably be another next year. A great stock.

COMMENT ALA-T Altagas Ltd Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $37.160

Good, mid-streaming company. More stable than your typical oil/gas producer, because they are not as affected by oil and gas pricing. A little bit expensive here and will probably drift down with sentiment with the oil/gas producers over the next 6 months. If it got back to the $30 level, it would be pretty good value.

COMMENT APO-X Acasti Pharma Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $0.470

Thinks there will be an event next year that will get the stock up above $1. Has been a poor performer this year. At the end of September, they came out with phase II trial results on their big Capri drug. Trial results were good. The current drug is a multimillion dollar drug that reduces triglyceride by 20%. This company’s drug, with half the dosage, came out with a 40% reduction. Because there were a bunch of short term players that when the stock didn’t pop a lot immediately, they decided to bail which has put on some selling pressure. For a company with a $30 million Enterprise Value, you are investing in something that would probably be in the half billion dollar range in the US. There is huge upside in the stock. New management is coming in, and once the phase 3 trial comes in, you are likely to see the stock really accelerate upwards.

PAST TOP PICK AVO-T Avigilon Corp Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $16.870

(A Top Pick Jan 15/14. Down 50.32%.) High definition surveillance cameras. Sold his holdings in the $28 range in February, when it broke down from a supply/demand perspective. Revenue numbers were great on the quarters following that, but they were spending a lot of money to generate that revenue, and the earnings numbers were a lot weaker than what the street had expected. Still has this on his radar screen. They continue to grow and execute very well. Another quarter like the last one, and there is a pretty good chance that he could be looking at this again. Have started to integrate their systems, so it is not just the cameras that they were once selling, but their whole software solution as well.

BUY on WEAKNESS BAC-N Bank of America Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $17.380

Doesn’t own any banks and is not a huge fan, but would probably prefer US banks to Canadian ones. This is an alright Hold. Had a decent recovery here. Relatively low dividends, but are being allowed now to pay out more, as the balance sheets have recovered. He is still a bit cautious, and would probably Buy on weakness.

COMMENT BAC-N Bank of America Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $17.380

Bank of America (BAC-N) or AT&T (T-N)? When you are valuing stocks, you have to look at the long-term free cash flow that a company can generate. In the short term, you are probably better with AT&T. It depends on what you want in the stock. AT&T will be much more stable, and he would prefer it because he is much more cautious on banks in the short term. However, on a 10 year term, you would probably make more money on this one.

HOLD BTE-T Baytex Energy Corp Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $15.600

It is too early to know where oil is going to be. The whole energy trade in 2015 could be phenomenal, even if we saw oil go from current prices to $75-$80. Thinks this is going to be a slow, steady grind back up. They are a big producer. They have some issues with their balance sheet and their cost of production, which they have to manage. They’ve been through this before, and management has got around it. It is too late to Sell at this point in time.

COMMENT BYD.UN-T Boyd Group Income Fund Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $47.010

Another great consolidation story. Has hung in here really well, compared to AutoCanada (ACQ-T). The auto body business is very fragmented and there continues to be lots of room. Management has done a great job of integrating the acquisitions. On his radar screen for his growth fund.

COMMENT CNR-T Canadian National R.R. Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $73.620

Getting hit because of a perception they may get hit on the “crude by rail” in terms of volumes. There is an entire peripheral damage type discussion that is starting to spook the entire street that is looking for whatever exposure anything might have to a low oil price. This and Canadian Pacific (CP-T) have benefited over the last 5 years in the ramp up in oil transported by crude, as well as sand for fracing transported by rail. The reality is that it is less than 5% of their business. Valuations on railways have come up, but people have made a lot of money on the stocks and are getting a little jittery and are starting to pull the trigger now. This could be due for a 10% pullback; these are great, long term businesses.

COMMENT CPG-T Crescent Point Energy Corp Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $22.490

From what he understands, this is hedged at a much higher level, from a total production standpoint, than what most other firms are. He understands it could be north of 50% of their production that is hedged. The obvious issue is that once those hedges roll off, they are going to be realizing lower prices. Everyone is trying to play leapfrog and get ahead of everyone else by selling before those hedges come off and the cash flow drops down. Very well-managed company. Management has said that if lower prices continue, they will protect their balance sheet rather than protect their dividends.

COMMENT CVX-N Chevron Texaco Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $104.860

In the very short term, there is pressure on the oil/gas sector. In the next month, he would expect this stock to go lower, but in 5 years, you will make money on this. In the next 6 months, a financial would probably do better.

BUY DCI-T DirectCash Payments Inc Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $17.180

Had a bit of a pullback last year. Did a lot of business with the Cash Store, which had gotten into a fair bit of trouble. Also, there were a bunch of Shorts attacking the stock, which knocked the stock back significantly. It was way overdone, so at these levels, it is very attractive. A nice cash generating business.

COMMENT DHX.B-T DHX Media Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $9.930

Recently acquired Nerds out of Vancouver, which just builds their library up that much more. Every day he looks at this and feels it is expensive, but they’ve done such a great job of growing their revenue over the last number of years. He thinks that is going to continue going forward. He would like to get it on a pullback, but has never been able to. Netflix (NFLX-Q) has just announced they want to globally launch their service, which means that they have to go to a company like this to get their rights for all of those countries. With all the video-on-demand services that cable companies are launching, they also have to go here to get licensing.

COMMENT DIV-T Diversified Royalty Corp. Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $2.470

Still likes this. Have continued to execute on their Franwork transaction. This is not going to be just a restaurant royalty. They have a number of different transactions they have lined up and are trying to close. Have said they are going to be in all different sectors. In the last few sessions the stock dropped a bit and there is no news on why. There may be some concern in the marketplace that royalties could drop if revenues go down. Just did an issue a while ago where they raised some more money, so they are all cashed up and ready to go. The stock will probably get a dividend bump off the next transaction. Has a nice yield.

TOP PICK GIB.A-T CGI Group (A) Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $40.910

One of the largest technology companies in Canada. Have done a phenomenal job of growing earnings at about 20% per year over the last 5 years. Stock is trading at only 13X earnings. Company is really focused and disciplined on that earnings growth, so much so that they are not even going to get bonuses this year, because they haven’t met their targets. The Logica acquisition is going really well and there could be more synergies there. There also could be more acquisitions going forward, which will drive the share price and the growth.

TOP PICK GILD-Q Gilead Sciences Inc. Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $104.840

Loves this company and thinks it is going a lot higher. A fantastic story in so many ways. A great stock and is generating a ton of shareholder wealth for owners. It is solving a lot of big health problems in the world. This has been the HIV drug leader globally for many years. Continues to produce better medicine in the HIV category. Launched a new revolutionary hepatitis drug called Solvaldi in January, and it looks like it is going to be the most successful 1st year launch of a drug in history. Over $10 billion in sales over 1 drug is pretty rare. They have followed that up by a 2nd hepatitis drug in October, and between the 2, the company is growing like a weed. While the stock has done well, it has not caught up with the fundamentals. Stock is trading at 10X next year’s earnings and generates a ton of free cash flow. They are buying back stock.

SELL HBC-T Hudson Bay Co. Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $15.250

He has been amazed at the pop this stock has had. From a fundamental perspective, he has a lot of concerns about the company. They are basically just levering the balance sheet up. For those who have been in this for the last 6 months, good for you. You have made some good money. If he owned, he would Sell it here. This is a company with not great fundamentals. It is just re-setting of the pieces of the puzzle to make it look like it is more valuable than it was 6 months ago.

COMMENT HCG-T Home Capital Group Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $44.580

You can’t argue with what the management team has done. Phenomenal job. Great return on equity growth. They continue to build the market up. For a longer-term investor, it certainly has good prospects. Had a recent selloff. Their latest quarter was not as strong as the market was anticipating, because so much expectation had been built in based on what they had done in the past. Also, as capital has moved out of Canada, it has been targeted a number of times by US institutions as a Short sale, because of their exposure to the housing sector. Bank of Canada just came out with a report saying the housing market in Canada is probably 30% overvalued. This company is very careful about the sectors and the areas that they take clients in. With its pullback, the P/E ratio and the metrics it is trading at. For an investor with a 3-5 year timeframe, this is probably a great entry point. It will probably go lower.

Bruce Campbell (2) CANADIAN OPTIMISTIC No View
PARTIAL BUY IT-T Intertain Group Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $14.240

Stock Price has really been hit in the last few days, which he thinks is a function of a number of different things, including the overall market. He is seeing real sloshing around of capital right now. With everything that has happened in energy and even in the financials, he thinks there are people that have been trying to shore up their accounts by selling down and raising up cash levels. People are targeting something like this, which has had such a great move. Also there continues to be rumours circulating about their next transaction. Have publicly said there are a number of transactions they are trying to execute on and are probably going to have to try and raise money. If you don’t own, consider doing this in 2 tranches. Probably buy some at this level, and wait to see some type of news from the next acquisition, which will be the next catalyst to move the stock forward.

DON'T BUY JOY-T Journey Energy Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $4.750

At this point in time, with everything going on in the oil patch, this would not be one of his favourites. Have a fair bit of debt on their books, and he wouldn’t be looking at this right now. There are so many other companies that offer better value, especially in the dividend space. You could look at Whitecap Resources (WCP-T) or Cardinal Energy (CJ-T) if you are looking at it from a straight comparison standpoint.

PAST TOP PICK LYB-N LyondellBasell Industries Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $74.620

(A Top Pick Dec 6/13. Up 0.28%.) Stock is trading at a double-digit free cash flow yield and paying almost a 4% dividend. Biggest part of their business is chemicals, so your feed stocks for that business is ethane. Their biggest business is in the US so they can take advantage of the cheap ethane in North America. Have competitors internationally that produce those same products, but from naptha, an oil derivative, so the worry the market is having is that their competitors are going to become more cost competitive. The reality is that oil has to come down to about $25 a barrel to be cost competitive. This retreat is way overdone and he thinks it will start to go back up.

COMMENT MFC-T Manulife Financial Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $21.590

He does not own any of the big lifecos or banks. He calls life insurance companies big black boxes, as no one outside really understands what the earnings stated really mean. This company went through a lot of problems and really got beaten up. He thinks they have stabilized and are moving things forward and have some momentum with the wind behind its back. He would actually prefer this over some of the Canadian banks.

TOP PICK MG-T Magna Int'l. (A) Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $122.160

(A Top Pick Dec 6/13. Up 44.45%.) Has a couple of more years to run. Really well positioned strategically internationally and benefiting from a growing auto business world worldwide. In baseball terminology, this would be in the 4th-5th inning for the auto cycle. Europe is still bottoming. TOP PICK NHC-T Nobilis Health Corp Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $2.970

(Formerly Northstar Healthcare) Just changed their name today, because they are doing a NYSE listing, which has a number of other Northstar Healthcares. A growth by acquisition story. They are partnering with physicians to buy surgical centres in the US. Also, have great organic growth. Over the last 4 years they have grown their revenue at about 100%. From an earnings standpoint, based on the latest acquisition they did, they could earn somewhere between $0.35 and $0.40 next year. If you put a conservative 10X multiple on that stock, this is a $4 stock. Thinks there is more acquisition and organic growth to come.

COMMENT NPI-T Northland Power Inc Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $14.670

As far as the general energy is concerned, these stocks tend to be a little bit safer as power producers. You don’t get quite the volatility. This wouldn’t be one of his favourites, as he tends to go with some of the bigger power companies. This is a solid, safe one. If you want some energy exposure, without the volatility of oil and gas, this would be alright.

TOP PICK NTB-T Neptune Tech & Bioresource Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $2.070

Krill oil. They own half of Acasti Pharmaceutical (APO-X), so you have the upside from Acasti through Capri going into phase 3 trials this year. This company has great resources with the plant producing Neptune Krill oil, being sold through Natural stores, which has a beneficial health effect. 2 years ago their plant blew up in Sherbrooke Quebec. The plant just came on stream this year and will be profitable this month or next. If that starts generating cash flow, investors will start to recognize this. A new CEO will be able to start talking to investors and will be getting a bunch of new institutions involved. $150 million market, which he views as worth over $1 billion.

COMMENT OCX-T Onex Corp Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $63.140

Moderately disposed towards this company. A really, well-run firm. Great insider ownership. Have done a phenomenal job on the deals that they have invested in over the last 5-10 years. Likes what they are doing. His only caution is that they are going to run into problems at some point with some deals, and when that happens you are going to see a pullback.

TOP PICK PHM-X Patient Home Monitoring Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $0.640

Regarding the stock price actions, they had accelerated some warrants they had, which expire at the end of this month, and thinks a lot of people were selling the stock to exercise the warrants. That is probably all done now and has lifted the supply off of the stock allowing it to move up. A “growth by acquisition” story, but we are now seeing some fantastic organic growth. They have been buying all these little monitoring businesses, and have been able to cross sell. Numbers will be coming out mid to late January. This will be their 1st quarter where they didn’t actually do a transaction, so he will be able to compare last quarter to the current quarter in order to see where their growth is. Thinks their phenomenal 20% organic growth could actually double. Because of this he expects that quarter over quarter they will probably see 10%-11% growth, which works on a run rate of about 40%-50% organic growth. They have a ton of deals they are still working on. Believes they have signed over 100 nondisclosure agreements, and understands they have several letters of intent they are working on. At any point in time, he expects we could see the stock halted and an announcement of another transaction. Looking into 2015 and given the transactions they have done and the cash flow they are generating, they could have free cash somewhere in the $800,000 to the $1 million range per month, which would allow them to pay a dividend.

PARTIAL BUY PLI-T Prometic Life Sciences Inc. Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $1.980

Stock tends to be very volatile and can have $.40-$.50 swings in the share price pretty routinely. If he didn’t own it, he would probably take a piece here, and would look to add another piece on either a pullback or any significant type of news. Just did a financing which is a great move from management’s perspective, in that now they shore up for all the trials they are going to do. Have a number of different orphan drugs. This $25 million plus the cash they have on hand, helps to really smooth things out. Their base plasma business revenue tends to be a little bit lumpy, as drug companies order from them and build their supplies up. If you don’t own, consider taking a position here and adding more on either a pullback or more positive news.

DON'T BUY PPL-T Pembina Pipeline Corp Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-10 $37.170

A really good company. In the last 5 years, it has been one of the best performing stocks in the country, and has done extremely well. Has done well in the last year because of momentum. There is a lot of momentum money run by a a lot of managers, who just look for stocks that are meeting or beating expectations. That is the caution with this stock. It was doing this for a long time and is now facing a pullback in the energy sector. Pipeline companies are much more stable than E&P companies, but they will pull back on sentiment with them. Feels there is more pullback to happen. Feels this is on its way to $30, so he would be a little bit cautious.

One of many he has on his radar list of those he thinks would be attractive. Wants to see things settle out in the energy sector. From a natural gas standpoint, this is one of the names he would be looking at to add to. Have continued to increase production with fairly good production costs. With the real estate they own, there is a lot of area for them to drill and increase production. Any take out would probably happen on an LNG announcement.

Has pulled back an awful lot. Was quite surprised at how much it had pulled back. Has a large exposure to energy, but the majority of their exposure is actually on natural gas, not oil. There are a lot of catalysts coming. Putting together another great quarter and are still super busy. Still seeing lots of gravel crushing, road construction and well sites preps being done. The catalyst for them is the Site C Hydro dam where preliminary work is expected to be announced very soon. They are also part of the bidding group for the main project. Stock sold off quite a bit when Petronos announced they were delaying their decision on the LNG project into 2015. He was a little surprised with this since they had leased 10 floors of office space in Calgary, close to 400,000 ft.². A Top Pick in October and one he continues to really like. Basically the “shazam” for everything else. Since October, they’ve had a great number of news releases out. One of them being their Pounce app, which basically allows people to take a picture of anything. It brings up a picture of a website to find an exact or close match. They continue to add on new retailers. Right now their retailers are 300 deep. They get revenue from a number of different sources, and we haven’t really seen that fall to the bottom line, but that is going to start to happen. Retailers pay them in a number of ways including service fees, per picture fee and per transaction fee. Great entry point here.

(A Top Pick Jan 15/14. Down 34.11%.) Still has a lot of respect for management. They are still executing the way he thought they would. The price of oil really started to go against them and capital flows moved out of the stock. It broke down from a technical standpoint, so he sold his holdings. He continues to like it and is still on his radar screen. They are seeing some significant cost reductions happening in their facilities, but also in their drilling costs, which will bring down their production costs. This means that their netbacks, even with the price of oil dropping, are still going to remain fairly high. There is also a pretty good chance that they might sell some of their facilities to give them extra capital, as opposed to having to go to the market.

N/A A Commentary A Comment -- General Comments From an Expert Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $0.020

Markets.  He sees 2 things happening. 1.) The rest of the world has been slowing down, and commodities have been catching up to that reality. There has been a dramatic decline in the price of oil, which has really been the leadership for the commodities on the way up and leadership on the way down. 2.) The realization that the US is actually growing quite well, a little too well, and interest rate increases are probably on the horizon. Because of this, the markets are adjusting to both of these realities. When you have 2 major movements, you get a lot of currency fluctuation, which spells a lot of volatility. Equities are risk assets, so when there is any uncertainty, they are going to feel it, regardless of whether it is permanent or not. People are just switching positions and trying to figure out how they need to be set up for these 2 long dated events that are happening. Midpoint of October to the end of March or April is usually 80% of your returns. He doesn’t think there is any reason to not trust that this year. However, we really haven’t seen an over 10% correction since 2011. If you are a long-term investor, ignore it and just stay in the market. Equities are the best place to be by a country mile, and we are going to see positive earnings growth and likely multiple expansion. Over the next couple of years, we will see interest rates go up, and there will be another leg up in equities, as a result.

Banks. Canadian and US banks are valued about the same right now from a PE standpoint. The Canadian consumer has lived on its wealth realization from its houses and real estate, and it appears that they have quite a bit of debt. This has pulled forward consumption for the Canadian economy. When that happens and liquidity dries up, which doesn’t look like it is happening right now, we are going to see air pockets and there will be reverberations and there will be risk coming into Canadian banks. The US banks have really taken their hit from 2008 to about 2011, and are on the comeback. Going forward, he expects US banks to have ROE close to 17%-19% and Canadian banks closer to 13%-14%.

US Economy. This is growing stronger than what people would have anticipated a few months ago. Last week showed very strong payroll data with over 300,000 jobs, the 10th consecutive month of over 200,000. There are very strong manufacturing activity measurements, such as the ISM. November was around 58. Anything above 50 means that it is expanding. Also, consumer confidence is up.

Energy. Lower energy is like a tax break for consumers, and puts more money in their pockets. Lower input costs will help corporate profit margins, which is positive for earnings growth next year. This will also help the countries globally, particularly emerging markets that have to import crude, which should be an overall boost to their economy. She has not been adding anything to her energy portfolios. You have to see some stabilization first.

DON'T BUY AC-T Air Canada (B) Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $11.090

A very leveraged play. She doesn’t tend to invest in airline companies, and considers them more of a trade then an investment. This has benefited from lower jet fuel prices. Traffic growth has actually been very strong in Canada, despite Canadian airlines adding capacity. If energy prices start to stabilize and go back up to the $80 level, you will start to see this stock start coming off.

SELL ACQ-T AutoCanada Inc. Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $45.480

This is an acquisition story where they buy up dealerships. A high multiple stock, and a pullback is what tends to happen when there is a slight earnings miss. Also, this is fairly concentrated in Western Canada, so there could be concerns about lower economies in the western provinces. Trades at a very high multiple.

COMMENT AD-T Alaris Royalty Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $34.100

They own a number of different interests. They try to take part of the revenue or the margin base, and give back some of their capital to the owners. He has never been able to get his head around all of the different interests they have. Feels there is a bit of an arbitrage play that has played out positively for them, in that if they have an expensive currency, they can use it and trade it for more royalties. However, if their stock falls, they won’t be in a position to use their expensive currency, and no more deals will happen.

WAIT AGF.B-T AGF Management (B) Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $8.280

Thinks this has been entrenched management. Have always been independent and have always had a belief that they could sustain the dividend. The pressure of the TSX coming down affecting Assets under Management (AUM) made them realize they weren’t earning their dividend and they have to do something about it. Manufacturer of mutual funds, which effectively is what they are, isn’t that proprietary anymore. The sweet spot in this business is actually dealing with the customer. Give it about a month. At 5.5X EBITDA, it is pretty cheap.

COMMENT AGF.B-T AGF Management (B) Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $8.280

Cut their dividend by 70%, which was a real surprise. Has a lot of cash on the balance sheet to fund the dividend for a number of years.

BUY AVO-T Avigilon Corp Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $17.050

Sometimes when markets get volatile, they sell everything that has risk associated with it such as high growth, higher than average valuation and uncertain earnings stream. That is this company. This is a great name. This is organic growth, which he really likes. When you take out cash, the stock is trading at 13X earnings. This should do very, very well in this environment.

DON'T BUY BB-T BlackBerry Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $11.980

Likes what management has done, but doesn’t like the sector in general. There is a lot of competition, especially from the Chinese manufacturers of hand sets. This company has done very well at turning itself around, but because of the sector and that he thinks margins are coming down, he would not be in this at this time.

SELL BBD.B-T Bombardier Inc (B) Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $4.040

Doesn’t see a lot of upside in this company over the next year or 2. The overhang on this name is the C series. It is in flight testing now, and has been delayed a number of times. The company indicated they hope to get it in service in the 2nd half of next year. They are at that period of time for airplane manufacturers where they are burning a lot of cash. On their transportation side, margins have been very slow to recover and they continue to restructure and lay off people there. Doesn’t see a lot of earnings growth for the next couple of years. If you own, consider selling and finding better growth elsewhere.

COMMENT BTE-T Baytex Energy Corp Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $16.900

Cut their dividend and CapX program and the stock was up today 4%-5%. This is a name that had a really high yield, and it is almost a relief that they did this. Doesn’t feel that they necessarily had to do it right now, but feels management just wanted to preserve the balance sheet and give themselves some flexibility.

PAST TOP PICK CF-T Canaccord Financial Inc Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $7.580

(A Top Pick Jan 10/14. Up 5.97%.) Had anticipated better times and a better year, which he got. Bought more in January, but sold about half his holdings in the $12 area. Today it is trading at about 8X BV, which is when you buy brokers, not when you sell them. It is now becoming very interesting. Close to a 4% dividend yield and management is buying back stock. This would be on his radar screen to pick away at.

HOLD CPG-T Crescent Point Energy Corp Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $24.940

Company has said they are not going to cut their dividend and she doesn’t think they have to unless energy prices stay below $60 for a number of years. They have hedged out some of their production, about 60% in the 4th quarter, at $92, and 37% of next year’s production at the same price level. They never cut their dividend, even in the recession of 2008. Management is very cognizant that their shareholder base wants that yield. Yielding around 11%, so the market is indicating they believe otherwise.

TOP PICK CSH.UN-T Chartwell Seniors Housing Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $11.730

A seniors’ home operator, and she likes that space because of aging demographics. The seniors population in Canada is going to be growing at a faster rate than the general population over the next 10 years. Also, seniors are living longer and need more care. Before the 2008 recession, occupancy was in the 94%-95% range, and currently is at around 90%. So there is no reason why occupancy can’t improve. A nice place to hide to get the dividend yield of 4.6%.

DON'T BUY CVS-N CVS Health Market Call Tonight (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $91.250

Switch from Abbott Labs (ABT-N) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ-N) into something more domestically focused? Currencies will be a headwind for multinationals, because they have their revenues come from outside of the US. However, she likes healthcare as a general investment theme and she wouldn’t compare these 2 companies to CVS, which is a Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) and a retailer. The other 2 are manufacturers. If you own these latter 2, she would continue to Hold. CVS has done very well, partly on the back of lower energy prices and more spending at drug retail, but thinks it is fully valued.

DON'T BUY CWB-T Canadian Western Bank Market Call (BNN TV) 2014-12-09 $31.040

Doesn’t think the lower stock price is just based on oil and gas lending. The market is worried about the consumer exposure to Western Canada. There have been a series of price increases in homes. Some people have been forced to go out and buy a home, probably at uncomfortable levels. The presumption is that this bank has been a lender to these mortgages, and who knows if these people are going to have a job. Feels that is a legitimate concern. He would be very cautious on this bank.
