US Mortgage REIT with yield at 15% at times.  He got out last year.  If it recovered a little. He would get out.

Just took on a small position.  Some near term concerns in agri-space because of corn prices.  3.5% dividend, PE is not extremely cheap. 

Doesn’t like Canadian retail space in general – slowing housing market.  There are a lot of US retailers moving in from a competitive perspective.  RET trades at a low multiple and is beaten up, so not expensive but he would avoid it.

A pretty good company.  Positioned well to benefit from rising rates.  Have a hidden asset that they own a money management firm that many people don’t know about.  He would prefer US financials to Canadian, however.

Doesn’t like the resource space.  Rising costs and slowing growth in China.  One of the larger ways to play base metals.  He does not have a single base metal company.

Now would be an interesting time.  There is a clear pullback and test of a support.  You could nibble here.

Lesser known name.  Problems few years ago and now have a lower levered balance sheet.  Hidden assets.  Trades at a discount to the group.  A name people aren`t as familiar with.  Benefit from US housing recovery as well as Japan`s rebuild.

Thinks they are poised to benefit. They did a deal today to raise equity.  They are confident in the housing recovery.  Timberland has been a good long term asset for WY-N.  He might pause because there is a lot of selling in this one.

REITs getting hit because of sensitivity to interest rates when they have to re-finance.  The volatility offsets the yield.  It’s on his radar but he is not stepping in now.

Banks.  Likes the covered call strategy for a senior.  You could nibble at half a position but wait in case there is another leg down this summer.

Markets. May 22 we had a bearish key reversal in US and Canadian markets - an engulfing pattern on an equity index.  The Hindenburg Omen indicator also happened - it implies the markets are past a short term peak and are showing extreme volatility.  You got a large number of stocks hitting new highs as well as a large number hitting new lows.  The death cross occurred also - the 50 day moving average crossed the 200 day moving average.  He doesn’t necessarily believe in the death cross but a lot of analysts watch it. He is 77% in cash.  He does selective seasonal trades in the summer.

Gold Stocks.  Historically they are building bases at this time of year until mid to end of July and then move significantly higher. Season ends in Oct.

Very clean balance sheet.  Well controlled and well held market that will benefit from increased US housing starts.  No dividend and thinks they will initiate one.  That will shoot the stock up.  Should happen in the next 6-12 months.

It has broken support levels and is in a downward trend.  It is below its 20 day moving average and underperforming the TSE, so you don’t want to be there right now.  Right now, it is not attractive.  Seasonal strength is in the summer (Jul-Oct) but he is not seeing signs for BCE yet. 

(Top Pick Jul 23/12, Up 3.33%) Net asset value is about $21.  Hold office properties around the world.  Pristine buildings.  High quality portfolio.  Rate hikes won’t affect them much.  Not much debt coming up for renewal in the near term.  Occupancy is 85% in US but 90-95% in Canada. 

On a seasonal basis it has strength from Oct to May. The stock has been in an upward trend.  It is below its 20 day moving average.  It has been outperforming the TSE.  Two of the three indicators are positive so he is mildly positive for this stock.  But the pop recently is due to the REIT announcement.  He does not put as much weight on the fundamentals and he does not take this announcement out of the equation.

Likes the insurance space because they fund their liabilities through their investments.  They can re-deploy a lot of cash now.  Reasonable dividend (4.5%) and valuation.  Prefers MFC-T.  You can also buy Power Financial Corp which holds GWO-T.

Downward trend, not lined up as yet but forming a classic base pattern.  Strong from mid-Jul until first week of Oct.  16% average increase during this time over the last 60 years.

(Market Call Minute) Is cutting back but relatively high payout ratio and limited room for capital appreciation.

Seasonal strength from early March to Mid-June. Nice chart with upward trend, outperforming TSX and above its 20 day moving average, but be careful because we are ending the period of seasonal strength.

This year it is forming a nice little base pattern.  The trend is down, it is under performing the TSX and it is below its 20 day moving average, so all three indicators are negative.  Wait to buy until the price of gold breaks around the middle of July.

Look for it to move higher into July.  Covered Call written out of season?  He does not recommend them out of the period of seasonal strength.

Normally moves higher around the third week of June until Sept, takes a break and then moves higher until the end of the year.  This year it is forming a nice little base pattern.  Don’t rush the trade yet.  Wait until all the technicals line up.  He thinks that it will happen in the next few weeks.

We have had some bad news for quite a while.  It is in a downward trend, below its 20 day moving average and performing below the TSX so it is not looking very good.  Mid July until Oct is seasonal trade.  Watch it and he thinks you can play this one within the next couple of months.

He is watching it closely.  A lot of the oil sands stocks are showing signs of bottoming and this is one of them.  It is finally forming a nice little base.  Strength is July to Oct.  We are getting close to this time. Oil stocks have not responded to the breakout in oil price today.  He is looking for $112/barrel for West Texas oil by end of September.

Long term treasury bonds in the US.  Broke a support level last week.  We now have confirmation that the bond market is in a downward trend.  Watch the FED announcement next Wednesday.  TBT-N is the inverse of this one and has been doing better lately.

Is in a classic reverse head and shoulders pattern.  It hasn’t happened yet but it probably will do so starting around the middle of July.  Right now gold equities are outperforming gold so he will use this instead of bullion.
