Biotech/specialty chemical company that makes enzymes. Anything for efficiency purposes with better environmental use and lower energy expended. Analysts did not like their 1% drop in sales, but they are doing fine on the food side. Have suffered a lot on the ethanol side because low corn prices have caused the farmers not to be using these enzymes as much. They will be coming out with enzymes that will be used in bio waste, so that landfill sites will not be getting bigger and bigger. Dividend yield of 1.22%.

Likes the story. They’ve switched their contract and he feels the company came out very well in the negotiations. Over the duration of the 10 years that the contract was reset for, the dividend is sustainable.

Markets. Most participants are quite nervous about what is going on. However, Bull markets climb walls of worry, so the fact that there is worry out there is good. It means people are taking a rational look at stocks and markets, and addressing the “concerns” versus the “opportunities”. A lot of people like to look at valuations, and markets are expensive. We are towards the high end of the range, but we can remain in this high end for quite some time. The first leg we have seen has been a multiple expansion, up to 18 or 19 times on the US market. What we need now is for earnings to fill in and reduce that multiple. Expects we are going to see that towards the end of this year and into 2017 with recovering energy prices, which will fuel earnings both in the US and Canada. In addition, we have a US economy that is growing, at an anaemic pace, but still growing. Expects we will see an input from global capital markets and global economies, which will push that even higher. On the US front, we are starting to see a stronger recovery. Friday’s jobs numbers definitely help the economic picture. We are also seeing a recovery in housing starts. Not only are there more people are looking for work, but for better jobs as well. He does have some concern with BREXIT and what that is going to mean for Europe. Seeing some signs of strength in Asia, particularly in China. There is definitely a bottoming, and the next step would be growth.

Auto parts suppliers are very cyclical industries. We have seen a tremendous return to growth in auto demand in the US, and there is a real fear now that we have hit a peak. The latest number he has seen was 18 million cars in the NA that are going to be sold. People have to keep in mind that we went through several years, post the financial crisis, of selling 11 million or less cars, so there is this pent-up demand that we are chewing through. This, and Magna (MG-T) are leaders in their field and both do a great job. Both are considered cheap right now. When auto sales turn over, there will be a contraction in earnings, but OEMs will feel it much more so. This company will be reporting shortly, and he expects good numbers.

Markets.  Crude oil came down below $41 this morning.  Everyone is watching the 200 day and seeing if it holds.  It seems to have held so far.  The inventories of Gasoline are a concern.  Inventories are high because demand for fuel oil last winter was weak.  Over the next couple of months refineries will go down as normal and normalize demand.  This is a short term impact.  Production of oil is down around the world.  Summer is typically a crummy time for oil.  He calls for $60 crude in 2017 and $65 in 2018, by which time the world will be short oil.  He is going to deploy cash he is sitting on this fall.

2016-05-04 COMMENT Enbridge Income Fund Holdings
ENF-T
Michael Simpson, CFA

The dividend is very stable. Expects that they will continue to get more assets from their parent Enbridge (ENB-T) which could lead to a possible equity overhang. He would always have a concern whether Enbridge would opportunistically take the income fund back in. Because of this, he prefers owning the parent. Dividend yield of 6.7%.
