How to Use this Database System

In order to show how to use the table view, system we present a little tutorial. It's not hard.
All the table view database pages on this site work the same, so once you've read this page you will be able to use all of them. This page will show you how to look up individual companies, or stock symbols, as well as find all comments on any particular symbol, or all the comments from any particular commentator.

The first thing to realize is that this site is a database. It's information is not static, and is updated on an almost daily basis. You are able to select various things in the database. What we display when you first come on to the site is what we are guessing will be useful to you. You will probably have your own ideas on that.

You need to open up a second browser to StockChase because if you follow the tutorial, this page will be gone (because the site is doing what you asked it to instead of showing the tutorial). Most modern browser can open a new browser tab using Ctrl-T.
Or you can read through or print it out for future reference or open another browser window, so you can have one browser showing this page and the other going through the tutorial. If you need help opening a separate browser just click here and remember you can use Alt-Tab to switch between the browsers. (Hold the alt key and hit the tab key)

The database has a number of tables which you can use to look up information. Each table has a number of vertical columns of information. You can sort these columns forwards and backwards by clicking the top heading in the columns of your choice. The first thing to do is to bring up the company page. The company page can be selected by clicking on By Company Names (located at the top of normal stockchase page). This table shows all the information about the companies that we track. One of the columns is the company name.

All our database pages have a "V" button, which stands for "Value", because you can use it to select values.

Once you click on this button, the page reloads, and there are spaces to type in under each field. In some columns there is a "drop down" selection menu instead.

We know that "capital" is part of the name of the company we are looking for, so we will type it in under company name. You can fill in as many fields as you like, and the search will become narrower.

When you have finished typing in the field push Enter to generate your report.

As you can see this shows all the companies in our database that have the word "Capital" in their name.

You can use this technique on any of the database forms and to out what the Experts have been saying about your stocks.
