Markets. Getting a little more rational and a little less panicky. Gold seems to have stabilized and oil was up a bit. He will continue to try and get dividend income stocks into his clients’ portfolios. You have to be concerned that the dividends you get are relatively safe.

Has this one in income oriented portfolios and is not looking for capital gains. Has been concerned  about the coverage on the dividend but he thinks the dividend is fairly safe. BCE (BCE-T) owns a big chunk of it. Covers the Maritimes, Québec and part of northern Ontario. Have made good progress in the fibre-optic area.

(He owns the preferreds.) This is a stock that you always think should be a long-term growth situation. They make their basic money out of the transportation industry where there are minimal margins. They are great at this. The real kicker has been their airline division, which doesn’t seem to be able to get off the ground. Very tough market.

Doesn’t know exactly why it has broken down through the $40 level. Expects people may have got concerned that the dividend is potentially under pressure but he doesn’t see that. Heavy oil producer but has been quite successful in shipping by rail. One of the best, most efficient producers going. Will probably be adding to his positions.

This is one you buy for capital gains. Has a much more reasonable multiple than what you would see with Canadian Pacific (CP-T). Likes that they are quite active in the transportation of oil. Oil tankers are growing at an amazing rate as the pipeline delays are putting pressure on oil prices in Alberta. He sees US and Canadian economies growing in the 1%-2% range. There is a lot more interest in transporting at cheaper rates.

Got nervous about this when the price of cotton got beaten up. That has all settled down. Management has shown again that they are great management. Good product. Have the market on T-shirts nailed down and he thinks that is likely to continue. If you are a long-term investor, this will do okay, but wait for the market to settle down.

This is a company that tends to lend to people where the banks won’t. They have done extremely well in the good markets that we have had in the last little while. There is a higher risk involved but at the same time, the company has grown very well. With housing a little more under scrutiny by the feds as well as the current slowdown, this would be a negative. He would avoid this one.
