Shopping center developer out of Hong Kong. He sees growth in the consumer in China. Well managed company that has been around for a long time. Basically they run high-end shopping malls. They build them and manage them. Has been selling assets off their balance sheet, typically getting 100 cents on the dollar. Yield of 2.5%.

2013-02-04 N/A A Commentary A Comment -- General Comments From an Expert

Markets. Thinks there will be pretty good growth this year, but outside of Canada. Things move in big cycles and Canada had a big cycle in the 1st part of this century. There has already been a shift in the foreign markets. Last year his global funds were up 17% but the Canadian market was only up 3%. Commodity cycle is key for Canada and he doesn’t think we are going to repeat what was done in the last 10 years. Now the shift is to some real growth markets, probably driven by consumption, capital spending, technology innovations which he feels is outside of Canada.

2013-02-04 COMMENT AAPL-Q Apple

Now that the stock has retreated back to around $442, he is looking at this closely. Very concerned about the next couple of quarters which are going to be a little bit shaky because of margin pressure. They need a refresh of the product. Apple 5 is good but is not selling outside of North America as well as people had hoped. 75% of the profits in the industry. Has the ability to layer on the big base of new products that will rejuvenate it.

2013-02-04 WATCH BB-T BlackBerry

We haven’t seen how effective they are going to be in actually achieving the results that the stock was expected to achieve. Stock has run up, probably because they have actually introduced the product. Was impressed with their new BB 10 but not sure it is enough to impress people who own other products to move. Has some really great features.

2013-02-04 DON'T BUY CSCO-Q Cisco

This company is driven by the overall economy and he has seen some issues with demand coming into the 4th quarter with enterprises not willing to open up their pockets. It is going to be difficult, but there is pent-up demand for spending and that is starting to be released. Has pressure from a number of companies, especially Asian, moving into the low end switch business. Offsetting this is some success on the routing side. Not a major growth stock. Not super keen on this one.

2013-02-04 DON'T BUY CSU-T Constellation Software Inc.

Prefers companies that have organic growth with good margins and a business model that makes them competitive in a way that they can gain market share. Great management who knows how to put businesses together but are basically driven by acquisitions. Have to do an acquisition almost every 2 weeks.

2013-02-04 COMMENT EMC-N EMC Corp

Showed great vision in acquiring VMware which was leading the whole platform in moving applications to cloud delivered application services. Have a few problems in that it is a hardware-based company and as we move towards virtualized infrastructure, it seems like storage could become more and more commoditized. Doing really well in the storage side and gaining market share.

2013-02-04 PAST TOP PICK FFIV-Q F5 Networks

(A Top Pick Feb 1/12. Down 13.71%.) Basically, it helps to accelerate applications so that when you call up a web page, it is there quicker. Have 60% of the marketplace. They are coming back now and he is comfortable with the stock.

2013-02-04 TOP PICK G-T Goldcorp Inc

Came down with the rest of the gold stocks. Feels the whole group is facing a credibility issue right now and are addressing this by looking at cost control and management. This one is a little ahead of the crowd improving profitability. Trading at the same price they were in 2006 and yet their EBITDA has grown 400%. Much cheaper than it was 5 years ago. Growth rate is about 70% over the next 3-5 years. Yield of 1.67%.

2013-02-04 BUY GIB.A-T CGI Group (A)

Well positioned by Canadian standards. One of the few companies that is moving outside of Canada. Growth opportunity is coming from the healthcare sector in the US, where they’ve bid on a number of exchanges that are being set up, especially for the states that are not going towards the Obama care solution. Management is very cost conscious and somewhat acquisition driven.

2013-02-04 TOP PICK GOOG-Q Google

Trading at 15X earnings and feels earnings are going to grow at 30% over the next few years. Thinks it is breaking out here and suspects it will continue to do so. Dominant in franchise and Internet searches and is moving into mobile and has the rapid video platform.

2013-02-04 COMMENT INT-X Intertainment Media

If you are looking at companies listed on the Vancouver exchange, you are taking a very big risk. Unless you have special information that comes from real deep knowledge of the industry that the company operates in and its competitors, he would avoid these kinds of companies.

2013-02-04 DON'T BUY MSFT-Q Microsoft

Has not been a great stock for the last little while. Great cash flow yield of about 11%, but is not paying that out by dividend. Just can’t seem to get their act together in the mobile space. Under pressure as PCs have less and less share.

2013-02-04 PAST TOP PICK POT-T Potash Corp of Saskatchewan
