Economy. Economy is recovering and companies are doing wonderful things. Thinks a lot of people are putting too much blame that it might be just government intervention that is supporting and propping it up. Feels corporate America and corporate Canada have turned the corner. You see this in all the earnings in the last 6 months. In addition, if you look at this 1st quarter, there is a pretty strong beat rate both sides of the border. Obviously we still have issues we are dealing with such as Europe and China’s impact on Canada’s resource space. Canadian market in the resource area is down about 13% in the last year but without resources it is up about 6%. Underneath the surface, the Canadian market is doing quite well. Tweet finance |

For a long-term investor and for his RRSP, would he be better off to buy an ETF or pick 3 of his favourite Canadian banks, which he knows will do well over the next 15-20 years? Banks have been pulling back in Canada and this is a pretty good entry point. Regarding ETFs, there are some out there where you can buy the 5 or 6 large banks, make sure they are in an equal weighted basis, and you will not do poorly with this. Tweet finance |

Provides supplemental health/life insurance in Japan and US. Valuations are quite good. About 80% of their business is from Japan. However, the 20% they have in the US is a real opportunity because corporations are downloading the benefits packages. Anything you want extra and above a very basic benefits package of a large corporation, you are going to have to go to something like this to get it. Yield of 2.55%. Tweet finance |

Have a lot of the credit concerns behind them. Theoretically they are dealing in the wealthier segment of the market. In the last 4 years, the have spent any excess capital into their technology. Thinks they are going to make some really big strides in mobile payments, digital processing and that whole area. Yield of 1.34%. Tweet finance |

| 2013-05-01 | BUY | CGX-T | Cineplex Inc |
A huge fan of this company. At a 52-week high which kind of concerns him, but it literally just keeps going up. The last 6 months box office has not been terrific which is an industry problem, not a Cineplex problem. However, there are some really big names coming in and people are going to pay extra money to see them in Cineplexes. They are also competing with Netflix with their ultraviolet program. Very well managed company. Almost 4% dividend yield. Tweet finance |

Has an excellent set of properties with a very nice yield. There is something a little bit disconcerting out there with this name with a lot of people scratching their heads why it can’t get back above $40. That’ve done a lot of acquisitions using their stock in the last couple of years. Perhaps people want to see them digest what they have been doing. Going to be a bit tough for a little while. The negative with this is the sector it is in but it is one of the top ranked stocks on Bay Street. Very strong dividend yield. Down at these levels, you could start nibbling away. US and global investors have a new, very strong interest in US energy, so money is flowing that way. Tweet finance |

Yen is going to keep depreciating so you want to make sure you are buying a vehicle that hedges you back to the US$. He believes the US$ will go up against the Cdn$. This could arguably be the 3rd big rebirth of Japan, at least in the media and certainly in the equity market. The QE (quantitative easing) that they’ve just launched will sop up about 70% of all bond issuance and force the Japanese investors into equities, real estate, etc. Tweet finance |

Probably one of the favourite names on the street. Average consensus target price is around $40. If you have a penchant for some risk and you believe in the gold story of collapsing fiat currencies, etc. maybe take a 1.5% position in your portfolio. Tweet finance |

| 2013-05-01 | COMMENT | KRFT-Q | Kraft Foods Group |
Would you choose Kraft (KRFT-Q) or Mondelez (MDLZ-Q)? Doesn’t follow these closely but does know that Mondelez is a consumer beverage. Probably the better play going forward is Kraft. Good sector to be in. He would probably take a profit on Mondelez and buy Kraft and then maybe staple on some Starbucks (SBUX-Q) as well. Tweet finance |

Service company. Has made some acquisitions lately. Been a little weak in the last while, which is a buying opportunity. Unfortunately, there are only 3 analysts that cover it. Still likes it. Strong yield of 7.8% which is safe. Tweet finance |
