Markets. May 22 we had a bearish key reversal in US and Canadian markets - an engulfing pattern on an equity index.  The Hindenburg Omen indicator also happened - it implies the markets are past a short term peak and are showing extreme volatility.  You got a large number of stocks hitting new highs as well as a large number hitting new lows.  The death cross occurred also - the 50 day moving average crossed the 200 day moving average.  He doesn’t necessarily believe in the death cross but a lot of analysts watch it. He is 77% in cash.  He does selective seasonal trades in the summer.

Dow.  It recently broke below its 20 day moving average.  It broke a short term trading range about a week ago.  It is slightly outperforming the S&P, so one of the indicators is actually positive.  His downside target is 14,400 for the correction.  If Dow goes below its 50 day moving average, look out below.

Trying to form a base.  It has kind of flat lined for well over a year.  Normally it does well from the end of Oct until Feb.  You are way too early to be a buyer at current levels.  You may have an opportunity at the end of Oct.

It has broken support levels and is in a downward trend.  It is below its 20 day moving average and underperforming the TSE, so you don’t want to be there right now.  Right now, it is not attractive.  Seasonal strength is in the summer (Jul-Oct) but he is not seeing signs for BCE yet.

On a seasonal basis it has strength from Oct to May. The stock has been in an upward trend.  It is below its 20 day moving average.  It has been outperforming the TSE.  Two of the three indicators are positive so he is mildly positive for this stock.  But the pop recently is due to the REIT announcement.  He does not put as much weight on the fundamentals and he does not take this announcement out of the equation.

Integrated oils move higher from Jan-Feb and then end of July until Oct.  Right now it is forming a nice little base pattern ready for July.  The price of crude oil broke above a triangle to the upside today.  IMO is starting to look very interesting.  Look for a move as we get into the summer.

With refiners, from late summer to end of Sept, this sector goes through a process.  They shut down refineries and move into producing heating oil.  Mid July until end of Sept is seasonal strength.  Watch inventories of gas and heating oil.

(Top Pick Jun 22/12, Up 31.76%) Doesn’t look as good this summer.  There is only one blockbuster movie, “Superman” which opened today.  He is not bullish on the movie companies for the seasonal trade this year.  If you want one company, your choice would be Disney.

2013-06-14 WATCH POT-T Potash Corp of Saskatchewan

Normally moves higher around the third week of June until Sept, takes a break and then moves higher until the end of the year.  This year it is forming a nice little base pattern.  Don’t rush the trade yet.  Wait until all the technicals line up.  He thinks that it will happen in the next few weeks.

Love Don Vialoux's analysis of seasonal strength or weakness in regards to stock sectors. The patterns of seasonality that he points out are so interesting.
