Markets. The BREXIT is coming a week from today, which may create volatility for a while. The issue is that the bond market is telling us something that is very different from what is going on in the world. It is telling us that we are slowing down, the US, the UK, everywhere. The market seems to be telling the Fed what to do, and that is not what is supposed to happen. Negative rates has a huge impact on the banks, insurance companies and savers, but people forget that it really affects the savers. The vast majority of people are not in the equity market, so that really does hurt people. We have to get to some kind of world where rates are a little higher. Also, a lot of people are not thinking of what happens if the UK leaves the euro zone.

Not an expensive stock. If you take out the cash, they trade at about 8X earnings. They could increase their dividend a lot more as they have a lot of cash to do that. The trouble is, people see it as a one product stock, the iPhone, and they don’t get a substantial amount of revenue from their service side. They have to move past their phone.

Going into a presidential cycle, healthcare is the easiest target in the world. Drug prices in the US, unlike Canada, are incredibly high. Every major drug company is there, because they can charge whatever they like for drugs. This is why a lot of these types of stocks have gone down. He likes this one a lot, and has bought more at these levels. They have a great pipeline, it is not expensive and pays a great dividend.

2016-06-16 PAST TOP PICK Must be logged in to use chart BCS-N Barclays Bank PLC

(A top Pick July 8/15. Down 40.54%.) Sold this a while ago. Had liked it because he felt they were going in a certain direction about reducing their investment bank and cutting back on certain areas. Then there was a big CEO change, there was just too much turmoil.

2016-06-16 COMMENT Must be logged in to use chart BHP-N BHP Billiton Ltd.

A very large mining company. It bounced off the low and there was a huge run on these commodity products. Not sure that you want to buy it at these levels. If you feel strongly about commodities, he would wait for a pullback. Feels very uncomfortable owning iron ore, when looking at the dynamics of China.

2016-06-16 TOP PICK Must be logged in to use chart BMW-GR Bayerische Motoren Werke AG

You can’t buy this in New York, you have to buy it in Germany. With quantitative easing in Europe, and what happened with quantitative easing in the US is that people frontloaded a lot of purchases. Autos rose up to almost 18 million in North America. Auto purchases are well below 2007 in Europe, so he thinks there is a backlog that will catch up. The stock is not expensive, trading at about 8X earnings. The company has 2 great hybrid electric cars, i3 and i8, but they don’t get the benefit of those. This company will give up margin for long-term growth, which he feels is very important. Dividend yield of 4.68%.

2016-06-16 BUY Must be logged in to use chart CNQ-T Canadian Natural Rsrcs

Has owned this for a long, long time. Management has done a really good job. They have consistently delivered. If you want a large cap oil play in Canada, this is one of them. Think of this as your stable stock, and if you have a really strong view on oil, you may want to own a mid-cap name where you will get much better returns.

2016-06-16 BUY Must be logged in to use chart CNR-T Canadian National R.R.

Canadian National (CNR-T) or Canadian Pacific (CP-T)? He likes the rails. This has suffered in the last little while and kind of moved sideways. Buying at these levels makes a lot of sense. A great thing about the rails is the effect that shipping has on the environment. It is much better to transport by rail than by trucking. Also, the rail industry has really consolidated over the last 10 years, and are far more conscientious about their cost structure and their return on capital.

2016-06-16 COMMENT Must be logged in to use chart CP-T Canadian Pacific Rail

Canadian National (CNR-T) or Canadian Pacific (CP-T)? He really likes the rails. He hasn’t followed this one too closely, so Canadian National would be his choice.

2016-06-16 PAST TOP PICK Must be logged in to use chart DH-T DH Corporation

(A top Pick July 8/15. Down 15.37%.) These are the people that originally made cheques, but now it is more of a Fin Tech company, mostly in the US. He likes the company and thinks there is good growth in it. The Fin Tech side in the US will be far more important, because of the many small banks, which are happy to use third-party providers. Still a Buy.

2016-06-16 PAST TOP PICK Must be logged in to use chart EFN-T Element Financial

(A top Pick July 8/15. Down 23.63%.) A leasing company. Made a big acquisition of some of General Electric’s (GE-N) leasing products. They got DVR rated, so their cost of funds has come down. He can see good growth for them in the US.

2016-06-16 COMMENT Must be logged in to use chart HSBC-N HSBC Holdings P L C

HSBC Holdings (HSBC-N) or ING Groep (ING-N)? Two very different companies. This one is a global bank. They are both cheap, but the issue becomes if we get out of this global slump, is where does the growth come from. This one has a much broader business. If he had to pick one, he would choose ING, because being a good, strong retail bank is a very good business if it is done well.

2016-06-16 TOP PICK Must be logged in to use chart KHC-Q Kraft Heinz Company (merged)

What is very unique about is that it is a great cost cutting story, but there is also some good revenue growth coming through on it. Heinz was a much more international company, and Kraft was much more of a US branded company. Kraft has some great products and will be able to sell off some of them, but also they will be able to use Heinz distribution network and push those products through the rest of the world. Dividend yield of 2.7%.

2016-06-16 COMMENT Must be logged in to use chart MFC-T Manulife Financial

Insurance businesses are not expensive stocks, and they certainly pay very strong yields. The tough issue is with lower rates. These companies have a very, very difficult time. This company not only has a good asset management business, but has grown a very strong franchise in Asia, which is a strong growth area for them. However, he doesn’t see where growth comes from and doesn’t think they can change dramatically in this low rate environment over the next little while.
