2013-09-27 COMMENT Veronika Hirsch

Has been doing really well in the last little while and she thinks this is because they have been converting their presence into a lot of orders in California. Pretty much saturated in Canada, so all of the growth is going to be pretty much out of the US. She has not been trimming her holdings.

Loves this one. During the recent volatility, a lot of US names have had nasty days, but this one just keeps on trucking. It doesn’t seem to respond to market volatility. They say they can still double the number of units they have in the US, which is a tremendous amount of growth for them. Still growing in Canada also. Governments are now interested in their technique because it is way cheaper so you need fewer days and fewer units. Attractive cost effective way of construction.

Had disappointed in their last quarter, so there is a correction happening. Margins had suffered. Their growth has been phenomenal and they have had to hire more people, so training costs have gone up. The company has announced that they are going to go from 5 trucks to 4 trucks in manufacturing. A lot of people interpreted it as deceleration of growth. Her interpretation of cutting back on production would be that they want to catch up. Three years down the road they are going to be back to 5 or 7 trucks a week. Doesn’t feel the stock is going to go anywhere in the next quarter, because you have to see that the margins have been improving and you won’t see that until the next 2 quarters. During this time, you have ample time to Buy the stock.

A little bit of both energy and infrastructure, so we don’t know what kind of earnings they are going to have next year. This is one of the stocks that she loves because of the management. They have done an incredible job of growing the company in terms of geography. Management is saying that the US business is still very good. Their business in Alberta is very poor, so she would expect those numbers to flow through, especially in the 1st quarter. Wait until Q1 is announced and then Buy. Expects subsequent quarters will see an improvement.

Really likes management. There are 2 industries they service, oil/gas and municipalities. Because of the oil and gas uncertainty, she is staying out of this until she sees a bottom in energy. It would be one of the names that she would be very happy to buy back.

The previous management was terrific in diversifying out of the oil/gas business. It is now growing much more in the US. This could still face a couple of tough quarters, but she would hang onto it. 2 years from now you will be happy.

2015-09-11 COMMENT Steve DiGregorio

Starting to look like very deep value. A business with growth and yield. Doesn’t think there will be any dividend increases for any of these businesses, given the current commodity environment. They are moving trucks around and starting to get them out of the commodity sensitive areas, and moving them more towards construction areas and into the US. This is a way to get exposure in the US homebuilding and construction market. Doesn’t think we are going to see this appreciate anytime soon unless there is a little bit of turn up in the energy side.

2016-10-18 COMMENT Steve DiGregorio

He likes the scalability of this. It is a business where you could continue to buy hydro-vac trucks, put them into the market and grow the business organically. However, the oil/gas problems happened in Canada, and they had a bunch of trucks allocated to that part of the market. They had to repatriate those into the US, where they are starting to see that business pick up. A very good business and a long-term hold. The balance sheet and the sector look good.

Found it expensive.  They are expanding into the US and are priced to perfection.  Well managed company.  They have to find the right resources to operate the hydrovac trucks in the North West Territories.  It could really come off in a correction.

This is a great company. The biggest fleet of hydro-vac trucks in North America, mostly in Canada initially. Have been growing tremendously in the US over the last few years. Got whacked because they had exposure to the oil/gas industry in Western Canada. Very high margin free cash flow business. They are really targeting the utility and municipal segment, and their reliance on the oil/gas segment has come way down. Dividend yield of 1.89%.

By far the biggest North American players in hydro-vaccuing with over 1000 trucks that excavate without breaking pipes and wires. Stock was hit because of their exposure to the oil/gas industry, especially in Western Canada. However, two thirds of sales are now coming out of the US. They are growing their utility infrastructure business. Thinks there will be a big turnaround in 2017. They make great profit margins and great free cash flow. Very well-managed. Not expensive, trading at under 8X next year’s EBITDA. Dividend yield of 1.76%.

(Top Pick Aug 26/15, Up 51.63%)  They had a lot of exposure to the US, but had such a great business model.  They have mobile assets.  They have great cash flow.  They will continue to grow in the US and may increase their dividend in the future.
