Opinions from Brendan Kyne

TOP PICKTimminco Ltd.TIM-T33.950(A Top Pick June 15/07. Up 843%.) Massive earnings profile @ $.40 in 08, probably $2 in 09, $3-$3.50 in 2010 and possibly $7 in 2011. Expecting multiple contract announcements this summer. Could be a capacity announcement going from 14,500 metric tons to 20 or 25 thousand metric tons.2008-06-06
TOP PICKPotash North ResourcePON-X2.550Potash. New listing on the TSX. Property is located between the 2 biggest potash mines in northern Saskatchewan. There are drill holes in it. Will develop a big resource here. Expect there will be focus on this company in the next 6 to 7 months. Got a 2nd permit today.2008-06-06
TOP PICKWestern Wind EnergyWND-X3.630Only publicly traded wind power stock he could find. 2 operating fields in California. Older technology and there will be a retro fit in the next year or 2, which will increase efficiency fourfold. Their project Wind Star is the most prolific wind farm in the US and could potentially be worth $200-$300 million when developed.2008-06-06
PAST TOP PICKAurelian Resources IncARU-T4.480(A Top Pick June 25/07. Down 35%.) Sold his holdings shortly after when the Ecuadorian government declared a royalty tax.2008-06-06
PAST TOP PICKBordeaux EnergyBDO-X0.045(A Top Pick June 25/07. Down 93%.) This was a drilling target off Bordeaux France. Came up dry.2008-06-06
CommentA Comment -- General Comments From an ExpertA Commentary0.020Agriculture: Food inflation is going to continue to accelerate. With the price of oil going up, shipping costs have to be passed on to consumers. The input costs of growing food products has all gone up as well.2008-06-06
BUYSprott Inc.SII-T9.920For this stock, you have to have a view that the commodity cycle will continue. Expects it will do quite well.2008-06-06
CommentUEX Corp.UEX-T4.390Likes it, but there are better places in the sector. At these levels, it is fairly safe but it would not be his top choice.2008-06-06
BUYDuvernay Oil CorpDDV-T62.400Large acreage in the Montne B.C. area. Management has always been extremely successful. An excellent acquisition target, possibly by Talisman (TLM-T).2008-06-06
BUYHusky EnergyHSE-T51.540Caller: Husky Energy (HSE-T) or Petro Canada (PCA-T)?Brendan: Likes Husky better than Petro Canada at this stage as Husky has a really solid management team. Keep a good eye on the cost side. Both stocks will trade in line with what goes on in the commodity price.2008-06-06
BUYPetro-CanadaPCA-T58.970Caller: Husky Energy (HSE-T) or Petro Canada (PCA-T)?Brendan: Likes Husky better than Petro Canada at this stage as Husky has a really solid management team. Keep a good eye on the cost side. Both stocks will trade in line with what goes on in the commodity price.2008-06-06
SELLUranium One Inc.UUU-T4.640Thinks there are better places to play the uranium market.2008-06-06
CommentA Comment -- General Comments From an ExpertA Commentary0.020Would like to see the government have a strategy similar to what was done in the last oil crisis where they created Petro Canada. It did very well for the country by spewing a lot of money into government coffers and, when it was sold, was a big windfall for the government. Time has come to create a national alternative energy company at the government level. They should invest $50 to $75 billion and combine geothermal, solar and wind. Would like to see a point where we are completely self-sufficient on the electrical power grid through renewables. Currently about 13% of our electrical power comes from Hydrocarbon consumption, 16% from coal and 14% from nuclear. Surplus power could be sold to the US. 10 years from now oil is going to be astronomically high.2008-06-06
DON'T BUYArise Technologies CorporationAPV-T1.760There have been some delays, which is one of the reasons the stock has not performed well. This is not one of his favourites. They need to execute better.2008-06-06
BUY5N PlusVNP-T10.480Solar cell silicon. Their primary customer is First Solar (FSLR-Q). With First Solar’s tremendous growth this company will continue to see a ramp up of its production. Has traded sideways and is probably a good point of entry. If Democrats get elected, the stock could easily double.2008-06-06
HOLDAthabasca Potash Inc.API-T8.650One of the many emerging potash players. Not his favourite. (See Top Picks.) Be patient and you will be fine. Any company that has legitimate potash reserves will go up in price significantly.2008-06-06
CommentUS Geothermal Inc.GTH-T2.760In terms of the Big 3 alternative sources of energy, solar is the most advanced, wind is now getting a lot of attention but geothermal is a little bit behind the curve. The latter is still at the developmental and capital loss level. With a possible change in government in the US, these stocks could skyrocket.2008-06-06
DON'T BUYDenison Mines CorpDML-T8.290One of the bigger uranium stocks being traded. Uranium has dropped another $1. Not an exciting sector at the moment. Until that turns around, he wouldn't go into it.2008-06-06
CommentGrande Cache Coal Corp.GCE-T9.530Primarily metallurgical coal. Coal prices have done very well. Likes this sector. Steel demand is very high. They have a wonderful asset base. A lot of it is already reflected in the stock price. We consider it at $8 or $8.50.2008-06-06
WEAK BUYOpel InternationalOPL-X1.110More of a solar developmental company. Have some exciting prospects in front of it. Has the ability over the next 24 months to put something together that is quite attractive. Given the stock price and the liquidity of the stock, wouldn't put a lot of money into it.2008-06-06
HOLDQuesterre EnergyQEC-T5.150(Market Call Minute.) Short term Hold because it has had a big run. Long-term Buy. Believes in the shale deposits. They are terrific. The chart indicates it needs a breather.2008-06-06
BUYPotash One Inc.KCL-T3.700(Market Call Minute.) Potash prices are going higher and will stay higher.2008-06-06
DON'T BUYEvergreen Solar IncESLR-Q9.820(Market Call Minute.) There are better solar names in the solar manufacturing space.2008-06-06
BUYAgriumAGU-T94.200(Market Call Minute.) Potash prices are going higher and will stay higher.2008-06-06
TOP PICKTimminco Ltd.TIM-T16.320(A Top Pick Apr 11/07. Up 505.5%.) Metallurgical silicon for solar cells. World’s 2nd largest solar manufacturer just signed a long-term agreement. Expect to be fully running with 3 lines by the end of the 1st quarter giving $.40/45 earnings, $1.50 in 09 and $2.50 in 2010.2007-12-17
PAST TOP PICKAurelian Resources IncARU-T7.450(A Top Pick Apr 11/07. Down 3.4%.) Huge gold discovery in Ecuador. 15 to 18 million high-grade ounces. Will get acquired at some point. Still likes.2007-12-17
TOP PICKDuvernay Oil CorpDDV-T26.000A sector that has been a disaster for a while. Stocks are starting to trade at NAV or below. You get a little over $5 in cash flow in 08. Rough weather could help natural gas.2007-12-17
TOP PICKCASHCASH40.500Recommends 25% cash. The subprime issue in the US is still happening. There will be more write-downs. China is trying to contain growth a little.2007-12-17
PAST TOP PICKKhan Resources Inc.KRI-T1.250(A Top Pick Apr 11/07. Down 75.4%.) As uranium started to come off, hedge funds dropped out. Sold at a loss of 30%. Wait until there is some directional movement in uranium prices, which could be 2009/2010.2007-12-17
SELLConstellation Copper Corp.CCU.H-X0.075Copper prices have dropped precipitously. This is a very small company and very speculative. Doesn't think there will be near-term production and financing will be next to impossible to acquire.2007-12-17
BUYArise Technologies CorporationAPV-T1.990Manufactures solar cells. A sleepy name that will do well and will participate in the sector. Will possibly earn $.25 a share in 2 years.2007-12-17
HOLDLundin Mining Corp.LUN-T8.590Going through a period of contraction due to the subprime issues in the US and lower consumption growth. Commodity cycle is not over and expects commodity prices will improve in the 2nd half of 2008.2007-12-17
BUYInvicta Oil & GasIGG-X0.450Stock has always been about 2008. Most stocks in oil/gas and the metals area have lost a lot of speculative money. Likes their land position around the inner oil/gas discoveries in New Guinea. With LNG facilities being built, their 8 million hectare property is a very good asset. Also have assets in Australia.2007-12-17
CommentSpire Corp.SPIR-Q20.780Solar panel construction. Sector had a growth rate over the last few years of 50% per annum and this will continue. Prefers being in metallurgical silicon manufacturing.2007-12-17
CommentUranium One Inc.UUU-T8.610Likes the uranium sector, but longer term. 2009/2010 will be the timeframe when uranium prices will start to uptick again. Speculative money has come out of uranium so stock prices have dropped. This company is completely unhedged and in the next 2/3 years it should do quite well.2007-12-17
BUY on WEAKNESSSunPower Corp.SPWRA-Q121.490Much more demand for solar panels than there is supply. The stock has run a little bit since September so would hold off buying. This is one of those names that will split several times over the next several years.2007-12-17
CommentA Comment -- General Comments From an ExpertA Commentary0.020This has been a horrific year for natural gas. He has seen several statements where companies have cut back on capital expenditures on natural gas. A lot of stocks are trading below NAV. winter has now come to the east coast and consumption on a year-over-year basis will be stronger. It may be a good time to look at these beaten up stocks.2007-12-17
WAITPine Tree Capital Ltd.PNP-T3.750A play on the mining sector. Probably feeling the reverberations from the subprime issues in the US. Believes this is only a short-term issue. This one could trade sideways for 6 months.2007-12-17
CommentTeck Resources Ltd. (B)TCK.B-T33.900Down for 2 reasons. 1) Has been caught up in the commodities correction. 2) Has had some cost overruns and they have had to push off some projects. Good quality company that is just facing a tough environment that should amend itself in the 2nd half of 08.2007-12-17
HOLDRoca MinesROK-X2.950(Market Call Minute.) Mining stocks at the moment are in malaise. 2nd half of 08.2007-12-17
BUYUS Geothermal Inc.GTH-T2.830(Market Call Minute.) This is alternative energy theme. People are going to be looking for ideas.2007-12-17
BUYYamana Gold Inc.YRI-T11.950(Market Call Minute.) A class act.2007-12-17
SELLLaramide Resources Ltd.LAM-T5.050(Market Call Minute.) Because of the new Socialist government that has been elected in Australia. Anti-nuclear, but pro solar.2007-12-17
SELLBordeaux EnergyBDO-X0.140(Market Call Minute.) They hit water, not oil.2007-12-17
TOP PICKTimminco Ltd.TIM-T11.480Produces polysilicon that is used for solar cells. Solar cell growth will be going up 50%+ over the next 5 years. Have just raised money to increase their capacity. Expects $0.45 in earnings in 2008 and $2.20 in 2009. Have patents. The lowest cost producer of silicon.2007-09-24
TOP PICKInvicta Oil & GasIGG-X0.860There’s been a big development of liquid natural gas facilities off Papua New Guinea. They own 8 million acres in the vicinity. Tremendous opportunity. 2007-09-24
TOP PICKFortune Minerals Ltd.FT-T2.840A deep value play. Have 2 key assets. Coal deposit in B.C. valued at $150 to $250 million. Gold/cobalt play in N.W.T., which is worth about $150 million. Has $25 million in cash. Trades at about .4X NAV.2007-09-24
PAST TOP PICKU308 Corp.UWE-X1.500(A Top Pick March 28/07. Down 68.1%.) You could consider selling for a tax loss and then buying it back at this price.2007-09-24
PAST TOP PICKAurelian Resources IncARU-T7.400(A Top Pick March 28/07. No Change.) Sold his holdings because of uncertain political moves in Ecuador. Expect the price off gold will start to pull this stock up higher. Still a Hold.2007-09-24
PAST TOP PICKLaramide Resources Ltd.LAM-T7.540(A Top Pick March 28/07. Down 51.9%.) You could consider selling for a tax loss and then buying it back at this price.2007-09-24
WAITNexen IncNXY-T30.300Oil sands stocks have suffered because of proposed Alberta increases in royalties. Until there is a definitive response by the government, there is going to be a cloud of uncertainty.2007-09-24
BUYDenison Mines CorpDML-T10.490Feels the sell-off of uranium is now over. Stocks have started to move up. Would own larger companies that are more liquid such as Denison (DML-T) and Uranium One (UUU-T) Both have a very open hedge policy and realize close to spot prices. Production is expected to double over the next 1 to 2 years.2007-09-24

DON'T BUYPetro-CanadaPCA-T58.060Stock had a big move and expect it will consolidate for a while. Also feels oil prices may have peaked in the near term.2007-09-24
WATCHBordeaux EnergyBDO-X0.560Still likes. There is a lot of onshore oil production in Bordeaux France. This anomaly extends offshore, where they are currently drilling and encasing. Probably another 3, 4 weeks before we know anything. Speculative.2007-09-24
BUYTournigan Gold CorporationTVC-X2.680Stock pulled back with the fall in uranium prices. Company has both gold and uranium assets. Expect they will separate the two. Good asset play. Deep value play.2007-09-24
BUYKinross GoldK-T15.000Prefers larger, more liquid gold stocks, such as this one rather than exploration companies. Look at mid-tier names. Expecting gold to go higher in the next 2 years.2007-09-24
BUYThompson Creek MetalsTCM-T20.330Molybdenum is a little bit of a volatile commodity, but he likes it. It is participating on the far eas consumption. 2007-09-24
BUYTalisman EnergyTLM-T19.000Likes it because it doesn’t have any oil sands exposure, which could be subject to Alberta royalty review.2007-09-24
DON'T BUYHarvest Energy TrustHTE.UN-T26.450One of the more aggressive trusts in terms of its growth pattern. Very aggressive payout policy. Doubt if it would be an acquisition target.2007-09-24

DON'T BUYUniversal UraniumUUL-X1.010Uranium. Anytime there is no infrastructure in existence, the developmental curve is going to take a lot longer for a new discovery to go from discovery to production. You are better to stay in an area where there is infrastructure, such as labour, access, etc.2007-05-10
CommentA Comment -- General Comments From an ExpertA Commentary0.020Uranium - Historically, there have been major discoveries followed by a lot of green pasture (Closeology!). Those companies were able to raise money in the venture capitalist market, but all went to zero. Stay with companies that have proven reserves, good management and near production. If a company only has aerial surveys, you are at least 7 years away.2007-05-10
